In conjunction with the European Climate Exchange (ECX), ICE has launched an ECX Carbon Financial Instrument futures contract based on allowances issued under an European Union-wide program designed to limit greenhouse gas emissions.

The ECX Carbon Financial Instruments futures Contracts (ECX CFI futures Contracts) are listed by and traded on ICE Futures. The contracts are traded electronically.

The IPE ECX CFI futures Contract is a deliverable contract where each Clearing Member with a position open at cessation of trading is obliged to make or take delivery of emission allowances to or from National Registries in accordance with the IPE Regulations.

Contract Size One thousand tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent gas.
